HOUSING SELECTION PROCESS
FIRST YEAR STUDENTS FOR FALL 2008- CLICK HERE!
2008-2009 Information
Housing Selection was completed on March 4th, 2008 for all current Millikin University students. If you are a current student and have not secured housing for fall 2008, please contact the Office of Residence Life at 217-362-6410. We are happy to discuss your options with you. We have spaces still available in several housing options.
The Woods at Millikin
All students with more than 24 credits by August 2008 (sophomores with a 2.5 or higher GPA) may choose to live in the Woods Apartments. Students may lease an apartment by contacting the Woods Office at (217) 464-8635. The Woods is a great option for those students who are wishing more space, more independence, and those looking to hone their “real world” skills in budgeting, cooking, etc. Cost for the Woods Apartments is very comparable to campus housing.
A note to upcoming senior students: Students who are senior standing by matriculation and credits (students entering their 7th Millikin semester and who have accrued at least 88 credits by the end of the spring 2008 semester) are eligible for off-campus housing. Off-campus petitions are due by May 1, 2008 for consideration. Petitions are available in the Office of Residence Life.
As a new student, you are responsible for completing a housing application. Deadlines for housing applications are May 1st for the fall semester and December 1st for the spring semester. If you intend to live on campus for both semesters, you need file only one housing application prior to the fall term. A housing deposit of $150 must accompany all housing applications.
Housing Assignments are made on a first come, first served basis, keeping in mind special needs and requests of applicants. We can never guarantee that a student will receive his/her first, second, or third choice of housing.
Once an assignment has been made, the student will be mailed their housing assignment to include the email address of their roommate(s). It is the responsibility of the student to contact their roommate. Due to privacy restrictions, we cannot release the phone or address information of roommates.
It is very important that students personally complete their housing application. The housing application inquires about habits (ie. smoking, sleeping) of the applicant that the Office of Residence Life utilizes in assigning roommates. Inaccurate information can lead to undesirable environments.
New students may preference their roommate if they so desire. In order for a roommate request to be fulfilled, both parties must indicate their interest in living together on their housing application.
Once housing assignments have been made, changes may not be completed until after the formal waiting period which is 10 days after the start of the term.
Returning Students
Upper-class students interested in remaining in their current residence for the following academic year may sign contracts in February of each year. The University cannot guarantee that a student will be able to remain in their current residence.
Returning students wishing to live in a different residence for the following academic year must attend housing selection in March of each year. Housing selection takes place by hall and occurs on a first come, first serve basis. Look for campus announcements and postings in February which will detail the specific times and locations of housing selection.
Students with 24 or more credits may choose to live in the Woods Apartments. This privately owned apartment complex houses Millikin students in apartment style living with private bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen facilities. Contact the Woods Management for leasing details at 217-464-8635.
