Welcome to the Millikin Bands page.
Millikin University offers two premiere ensembles for wind,
brass, and percussion students: the University
Concert Band and
the Symphonic Wind Ensemble. Both perform at
Kirkland Fine
Arts Center, and they both include students of all majors.

Millikin's band program, under the direction
of Dr. Gary Shaw, offers an unparalleled experience in
musicianship. Frequent guest conductors and soloists have
visited the Millikin University campus to perform with students
in the band program. Notable conductors include John P. Paynter,
Stephen Egglelston, Robert Grechesky, Charles Menghini and
conductor/composer Robert W. Smith. Notable guest soloists
performing with the bands include Millikin faculty members,
Canadian Brass trumpeter, Ronald Romm; tubist Harvey Phillips;
and trombonist John Marcellus. The Millikin Wind Ensemble has
also participated in several new composition consortium with
other universities. Composers involved in these new pieces for
wind ensemble include David Maslanka, David Gillingham, John
Stevens, Joseph Schwantner and Libby Larsen.

University Concert Band, under the direction of Dr.
Sharon Huff, plays at various campus events and concerts
throughout the year.
Concert Band Members
The
Symphonic Wind Ensemble is conducted by Dr. Gary Shaw. The ensemble performs on and off campus each year. On January 23, 2009 the Wind Ensemble will be feature at the MENC north central division meeting in Indianapolis. This spring, March 16-22, 2009, the ensemble will travel to New York City with performances in Ohio, Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
