Campus Programs
If your student is still looking for activities on campus, there are several opportunities remaining during the spring 2008 semester. With over 90 student organizations that focus on a wide array of interests, a variety of programs are being held this spring. Your student can visit the Office of Student Programs in Lower Richards Treat University Center at any time, where we can connect her/him with many involvement options. Students and families alike can visit the Office of Student Programs website (www.millikin.edu/student_programs) and download the most current version of the campus events calendar. Below are just a few of the programs taking place this spring:
University Center Board
Millikin’s University Center Board continues to provide various entertainment options for students. The spring semester includes critically acclaimed singer/songwriters, comedians, recreation events, outdoor activities, and the “Big Event” (a large concert taking place in Kirkland Fine Arts Center on Saturday, March 29, 2008). These programs are always promoted on campus so encourage your students to be on the lookout for these events. Visit www.millikin.edu/ucb for more information and a list of upcoming events.
First Year Experience (FYE) Mentor & Resident Assistant Selection
Does your student like to help others? Is your student looking for a way to “give back” to campus? The FYE Mentor or Resident Assistant role may be the right fit. On February 4-5, 2008, all students are invited to attend an informational session to find out more about FYE Mentors/Resident Assistants and how they may apply. These positions are an excellent leadership opportunity where your student could have the opportunity to be on a team of 60 outstanding student leaders.
April 14-20, 2008
MillikinUniversity’s Greek community includes over 300 students in 4 sororities and 5 fraternities. Greek Week is the opportunity for these organizations to share and showcase their core values of scholarship, service, leadership, and brotherhood/sisterhood to the Millikin University and Decatur communities. Events during this week include a Talent Show, Faculty Appreciation Event, Honors Convocation, Awards Banquet, and a campus service project.
The Office of Student Programs along with all of the Greek councils and organizations here at Millikin encourage everyone to participate and share in this week. Be on the lookout for flyers and campus announcements for information on the week as the event approaches.
Spring Sibs Day
April 26, 2008
UniversityCenterBoard and the Office of Student Programs will proudly sponsor the first annual “Spring Sibs Day” on Saturday, April 26, 2008. This event is a chance for the siblings (ages 6-17) of all current students to attend campus events and spend a night with their Millikin brother or sister. Musical entertainment, movie showings, and outdoor recreational activities will highlight the day. Look for a mailing to your home or information from your Millikin student on how to register.
