B.A. Theatre

The Bachelor of Arts in Theatre is designed for the student who desires broad-based experience to all aspects of theatre and drama. You may choose to focus on:

  • Performance
  • Directing
  • Theatre Research
  • Theatre Design and Technology

You may also tailor your B.A. degree program to meet individual career and academic goals, including acquiring a second major in another area of interest. Students graduating with a B.A. degree often go on to careers in theatre dramaturgy, arts management and administration, directing, etc. Many B.A. students also choose to attend graduate schools to complete advanced degrees in theatre research or performance.

Students in the BA program can and are encouraged to participate in productions each semester. The work of each BA student will be reviewed on a yearly basis.

Course of Study Requirements

124 credits are required for the degree.
(45 credits in the Theatre major, 79 in electives and University Studies)
  • TH 131, Play Analysis
  • TH 141, Acting I
  • TH 142, Acting II
  • TH 253, Stagecraft
  • TH 321, Directing I
  • TH 335, Integrated Theatre Studies I
  • TH 336, Integrated Theatre Studies II
  • IN 400, Fine Arts BA Capstone
  • Dramatic Literature/Theory/Criticism electives (9 credits)
  • Design/Technical Theatre (6 credits)
  • Theatre Electives (6 credits)
  • Practicum (3 semesters)

In addition, students must fulfill language requirements for the BA degree.
